It is not for nothing that Cyprus is filled with legends about love and is considered the birthplace of Aphrodite. There really is something to do for romantics here – just look at the idyllic lagoons and the opportunity to test the feelings of your other half in an ancient chapel. What can romantic tourists do in Cyprus?
Sail around Akamas
It is no secret that Cyprus is surrounded by waters of incredible color, and from any harbor here you can take a yacht or boat trip. And one of the options suitable for romantics is the Akamas Peninsula and Cape Arnaouti. The coast in this part of Cyprus is famous for its beautiful steep cliffs, small calm bays and blue lagoons. You will not find a more idyllic place for swimming. The water near the cape remains pleasantly warm for most of the year, and if you take everything you need for snorkeling and dive under the water, you can see schools of silvery fish.
Have dinner with a view of Konnos
Cyprus is always picturesque at sunset, but the most romantic experience is watching the sunset at Konnos Bay. This is the least crowded beach in Protaras, which became known to tourists only after 2005. You can get to Konnos either by climbing the steep cliffs or by boat from Protaras. Now there are hotels, entertainment and restaurants here. One of these establishments with a view of the bay is perfect for spending romantic evenings.
Check your feelings
Near Paphos is Agios Georgios, a fishing harbour overlooking a rocky islet. Not far from the modern church of St George is a small chapel known as the “Lovers’ Church”. Small and unremarkable in appearance, this 18th-century stone building is popular with couples. A Cypriot legend has it that those who want to test their love for strength should come to the chapel. There are wax candles inside, and if you light one, turn it over and ask three times about the sincerity of your loved one (saying their name), you will receive an answer. If the flame continues to burn strongly, your other half is quite sincere in their intentions.
Go to the Troodos Mountains
The Troodos Mountains attract romantics at any time. In spring, you can smell the fresh pine scent and see flowers blooming. In summer, the mountain air creates a coolness – a contrast to the hot resorts. In winter, the slopes are reborn once again to turn into ski slopes. During your walk, you can come across a church with Byzantine painting or a monastery, and then head to the mountain villages to walk along cobbled streets and visit shops. The villages of Troodos produce delicious syrups and honey. And in the evening, there is nothing more romantic than dinner in a small tavern in front of the fireplace in winter and by candlelight in summer.
